I joined Sateri in Shanghai as Strategic Planning Associate in 2007. On my first day of work, I learned that my reporting manager had resigned and would leave the company soon, leaving me as the only member of the newly set-up team. I learned early on that change is the only constant in Sateri, and that every day promises a fresh challenge!

Despite difficulties, I survived my first six months. I was promoted to Market Intelligence supervisor and had the privilege of systematically building this function for the next few years. In 2012, I was assigned to help the Supply Chain team improve its documentation and Sales and Operations Planning system, while maintaining my market intelligence role. It was an incredibly busy and challenging period for me.

I was later promoted to Assistant Manager and my responsibility in Supply Chain focused on viscose export logistics including freight tendering, third-party pulp procurement and internal pulp allocation. During this stint, I drafted Sateri’s Pulp Sourcing Policy and got to work more closely with colleagues from other functions and departments. One of the highlights was spending a week in Indonesia, visiting the operations of a sister company to learn about sustainability. 

Since 2014, I have returned to my “comfort zone” in marketing. I have led the marketing team in various projects including the prototyping of BV, a premium Sateri product which was awarded fashion fiber at the first-ever Intertextile Shanghai exhibition, developing Sateri’s brand architecture with Fudan University, as well as developing Sateri’s non-woven products. The marketing team is now much stronger than before and it is very satisfying working alongside motivated marketing professionals. 

When I look back at my decade-long career with Sateri, I am proud to say that I was often thrown into unknown situations and roles which I was not always trained or prepared for. But the pace in Sateri is so fast that one lavishes at the opportunities provided and try to learn as fast on the job as possible. It is the excitement of being a part of, and satisfaction from watching the company grow to become the world’s largest viscose producer that keeps me coming to work every day.
