Sateri Installs its First Rooftop Photovoltaic System and Plans to Increase Renewable Energy Use
2 August 2021, Shanghai – Sateri, the world’s largest viscose producer, has successfully installed a one-megawatt (MW) rooftop solar photovoltaic system and connected it to the power grid. The pilot project marks Sateri’s first foray into renewable energy use to reduce its carbon footprint.
The USD780,000 solar system is installed on the roof of a warehouse at Sateri’s mill in Jiangsu, China. With an annual capacity 1.32 million kwh of electricity, the project can power an equivalent of 1,000 households in the Suqian city of Jiangsu yearly, while reducing 1,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emission.
Allen Zhang, President of Sateri, said: “This pilot solar project is a small step towards realising both company and China’s decarbonisation goals. We are encouraged by the success of this first experience with solar energy and plan to invest in more renewable energy use across our mill operations, as part of our holistic strategy to mitigate climate change.”
Last November, Sateri unveiled its Vision 2030 which includes targets to achieve 30% carbon emission reduction by 2030 and net zero emissions by 2050. As a member of the RGE group of companies with a strong presence in China, Sateri is committed to supporting the country’s “dual-carbon” goal to achieve carbon emissions peak by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2060. All Sateri mills have completed carbon verification and will participate in the national carbon trading scheme.
